Silver Street Artworks, Gainsborough

Gainsborough Heritage and Tourism Group were given funding through the Trent Vale community grants towards a wildlife-inspired community sculpture.

Steel swifts flying in a loop is a piece of community-led artwork that Trent Vale community grants co funded

Gainsborough Heritage and Tourism involved over 400 members of the community to create a bird sculpture for Silver Street, close to the riverside.

Trent Vale contributed £1,900 towards the project that delivered awareness-raising workshops to families and young people and to develop skills in creativity based on a wildlife theme. The resulting artwork is a robust metal sculpture of a circle of swifts mounted high in the air with the aim to connect Gainsborough with the new RSPB reserve at Beckingham Marshes across the River Trent.

Long term benefits of this project include annual community sessions and riverside festival events staged around the sculpture.
